Farewell Shenandoah, Hello Hooter

One of our last Shenandoah Vistas

After over a week off the trail, it felt good to see the old AT again. We hiked about 13 miles today. Most of the hiking was fairly easy, and we took our time. We were reluctant to pick up the pace today because it meant bringing one of the nicest sections of the trail so far to an end. Towards the end of our hike, we reached the northern boundary of the Shenandoah National Park. The SNP was full of gorgeous views, easy walking, easier pickups, good food from the Trail Angel Mamma every day, the stylings of local musical groups, and plenty of wildlife. We were sad to leave this park, but a journey must progress ever forward.

End of the Park.

Even though we were sad to leave beautiful Shenandoah, we were happy to get to the end of our hike, because our friend Hooter was there to meet us. It seems that we've given him a bit of trail fever and he just couldn't stay away, so he decided to join us for a couple more days. Even though a few days with Hooter is a treat in and of itself, he also came bearing treats from his farm. I've discovered a new natural wonder - the muskadine grape. Hooter brought bagfulls of the huge, candy-sweet grapes from his farm, along with other goodies, and I love them. So welcome Hooter, for more adventures on the AT.
